Welcome to my blog!
I am a middle-aged male, married, a feminist, and have high-functioning schizoaffective disorder. My goal is to share my lived experiences.
As a mental health blogger, I am not an advocate of “recovery” in the way that some people are.
One of my problems with “recovery” (as it is sometimes discussed) is that it is unsustainable. Due to regular to increasing amounts of stress, individuals oftentimes relapse.
Another issue I have with “recovery” is that, with medical conditions such as cancer, “recovery” means that there are no longer any signs of the condition.
And, that is clearly not the case with mental illnesses such as major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and schizoaffective disorder.
So, while psychiatry may say that I am stable, my thoughts are anything but stable.
My self-care suffers. My relationships suffer. And, my symptoms have never gone into remission. All while faithfully taking the meds.
Also, I can’t work and am unable to volunteer (I do have hobbies, but blogging is all I can do right now).
In sum, my primary goal with blogging is to show others how severe conditions such as schizoaffective disorder (depressive type), affect someone who tries, is high-functioning, and who takes good meds.
Thank you for stopping by, and please consider following and participating in my blog.
